Drs. Badri N. Madan is a prominent businessman of the Indian community.
He came to the Netherlands in 1968 and since then has played an important role in the development of various Indian Community-related organizations in the area of cultural and trade relations between India and the Netherlands. Drs. Madan obtained Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degrees from the Punjab University, India, as well as the Masters (‘Doctoraal’) degree in International Law from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.
Drs. Madan is Chairman-Emeritus of the Indian Business Chamber and is a charter member, vice-President and past President of the Rotary Club, The Hague Metropolitan and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International. He is Director of a holding company dealing in real estate and trade. He was also a member and past Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Erasmus Pharma, Rotterdam.
He is a member of the Netherlands India Association since 1969 and has been a member of its Executive Board for a number of years during which he has held the posts of Secretary (1983-1987), Vice-President (1987-1989) and President (1989-1991 and 2002-2011).
Drs. Madan was a member of the Core-Committee of the first Pravasi Bharatiya Divas-Europe, in 2009, and a member of the core-committee of the Indian Diaspora Conference in 2011, organized at The Hague.
He is a founder trustee and a past President of the Foundation of Critical Choices for India. He also cofounded Foundation for Indian Diaspora Europe.
He received the Paul Harris Fellow award twice from the International Rotary Foundation for furthering the cause of better understanding and friendly relations among the peoples of the world.
He was knighted by the king of the Netherlands on the Independence Day of India in 2018 for his contribution as a bridge builder between India and the Netherlands in the fields of economy, culture and social affairs.
